Orange Pearlescent Convergence paint scheme

After quite a few requests I have finally put together a quick tutorial on painting the orange Convergence pearlescent paint scheme.

Start with a grey primer base coat, followed by a white zenithal primer. The Pearl paints are somewhat translucent. So this shaded base coat will help with some of the shading of the orange.

The two pearl colors I used are Wicked Colors pearl Orange and Pearl Yellow. You can see their colors here. Their colors are quite fun. They give you a rich semi-metallic color with sheen. You get cool light reflections on them without them looking like glazed over silver.

These paints require an airbrush to apply smoothly. Wicked Colors also makes a reducer you may want to use to thin them a little. They start quite thick.

First coat is the pearl orange over the zenithal primer. You may want to do two thin coats. This paint takes a little longer than typical acrylic to dry.

Next is a zenith highlight using the pearl yellow. You don’t want to do too much. If you do it will turn the color more golden than orange. If you do, you can always go back and shade with the base orange to get rid of the yellow.

Before the next steps for the orange, I do all the silver in P3 Cold steel followed by a light GW Nulin Oil wash for a little basic shading.

Next step is shading the orange. I use an old GW dark flesh, which is a darker red brown color. You could use doombull brown or any other darker red rusty brown color. I will typically two brush blend in the shading.

After that I shade the silver metal with P3 Greatcoat Grey, then 50/50 Greatcoat & P3 Coal Black. After that the edges get re-highlighted with the base color. Next I take the pearl yellow, mix in some bright silver, and edge highlight the orange where appropriate. Lastly paint the glowing parts what ever you glow color of choice is. I like blue because it is a compliment of orange.

And some larger pieces in the same color scheme. Hope this helps out some!
